Atletico Madrid: Courtois, Dominguez, Miranda (70' Silvio), Godin, Perea, Assuncao, Gabi, Juanfran (58' Turan), Salvio, Adrian (61' Falcao), Koke.

Lazio: Bizzari, Zauri, Diakite, Dias, Lulic (78' Rozzi), Ledesma (81' Zampa), Matuzalem, Candreva (57' Gonzalez), Hernanes, Mauri, Kozak.

Just as expected Lazio stood no chance in the close to impossible task of turning a devastating 3-1 loss at home to Atletico Madrid in Spain. The Italians showed far from hungry enough, and with all the drama surrounding the club at the moment there are other and more important tasks to try to solve. It must also be stated that Atletico Madrid, under the management of Lazio legend Simeone, is a team simply too good for Lazio in the current form. Maybe a return to the European competitions is what Lazio are fighting for in the domestic league, but with the way Lazio behave in Europe one has to wonder why this is goal for the season at all?

Regarding the game there is little to report. Lazio created close to no scoring opportunities, and Simeone’s men saw the session as a chance to try new players and make sure the team is tuned up for the rest of the season. The domestic game has hit obstacles with Atletico lining up draws, but in Europe the team showed to be levels above Lazio in quality. The game never sparked and the travelling fans saw their players perform far from as good as the supporters were singing in the stands. At least there is something to be happy about for the Lazio faithful.

After the 1-0 loss, a goal scored on a header after a corner in the second half by Godin, the game never sparked in the second 45 minutes either. Lazio fielded the best possible eleven, and it is obvious that the team never was prepared to compete in Europe this season. Now everyone involved in with Lazio travel back to Rome and await the press conference that will reveal if Reja is staying on his position, or if he is to leave and be replaced. The discussion surrounding the current situation in Lazio is what has attracted all the attention lately, and this is what will be continued now that the dreams of succeeding in Europe also officially are over.
