14/07/2012: Auronzo di Cadore: Day Six
email print

After five days of hard training today was the day for the first match this season for the new coach Petkovic. A friendly against local time Auronzo.

First the players had a training session in the morning as usual. Petkovic gave some signs on the team will play when they used a 442 formation.

In the afternoon it was time for kick off.

Lazio 4-4-2 (first half): Marchetti; Zauri, Stendardo, Dias, Scaloni; Mauri, Ledesma, Ederson, Candreva; Floccari, Rocchi

Bench: Berardi, Bizzarri, Carrizo*, Biava, Cana, Cavanda, Diakitè, Garrido, Konko, Gonzalez, Hernanes, Lulic, Alfaro, Kozak, Rozzi, Zarate

*Carrizo was the only one that did not play.

Petkovic started with a lineup that surely is far from his best, but the most interesting is that he played with four at the back for the entire match.

Like always in these friendlies it was mostly just to play some football again. Lazio started slow and looked unmotivated for the first twenty minutes before the goals finally came.

It was Antonio Candreva who got the first goal with a fine shot assisted by Sergio Floccari.

10 minutes later the new signing Ederson showed some fine skills when combining with Candreva on the right side. He put the ball in front of the goalkeeper and Stefano Mauri had no problems with doubling the lead.

Just two minutes later Antonio Candreva got his second goal. Lazio went on to dominate the rest of the half and Ederson again showed his skills and assisted to Ledesma who scored a great long-range goal.

Then it was time for Ederson to get his first goal for Lazio which the crowd really seemed to love.

Then a minute later Ledesma showed his passing foot. A magnificent assist to youngster Antonio Rozzi who made it 6-0. His first senior goal for Lazio.

Rozzi came in up front together with Emiliano Alfaro after 30 minutes, and just before half time it was the striker from Uruguay who showed some fine skills when dribbling past two players to make it 7-0 at half time.

In the second half Petkovic made several changes to the team. After having already brought on Rozzi, Alfaro, Berardi and Cavanda in the first half he decided to bring on Biava, Diakite, Garrido, Lulic, Hernanes, Cana and Gonzalez.

Lazio needed only four minutes to get the first goal of the second half. Lulic made a cross on the right side to Alvaro Gonzalez who was unmarked.

Then Alfaro got his second in the 54th minute with a well placed shot in the bottom right corner.

Rozzi had time for a second before he was substituted with a shot in the left corner.

Even if the score was now 9-0 most of the fans was not totally satisfied. A certain Mauro Zarate was still sitting on the bench and in the 60th minute he was brought on together with Bizzarri, Konko and Kozak.

Libor Kozak only used a minute to get on the scoresheet with a trademark header after a cross from Senad Lulic.

Mauro Zarate had some chances right away and also tried to set up team mates at several occacions. After 17 minutes on the field he decided to do the job himself and dribbled past a defender and put the ball in the right corner.

Just before the match was over Gonzalez had time for a second, and Hernanes who had a very poor afternoon got a goal in the last minute. 14-0 for Lazio and even if the result does not matter Vladimir Petkovic has hopefully some more answers now.

Man of the match: Ederson

The new signing showed some fine skills. Dribbling, passing and good work rate. Said on the press conference after the match that he loves to the part of the group and that he is targeting top3 in the league.

Flop of the Match: Tommaso Rocchi

The capitano looked at times like he was still on holliday. Worked less then he is known for and never got in to positions were he could finish. Was replaced after an half hour.

Honourable mention: Antonio Rozzi

It was a little surprising to see the striker who just turn 18 be a part of the squad for Auronzo ahead of older players like Barreto and Ceccarelli. However he showed signs today that he is perhaps the most talented player in the clubs rank with two fine goals.
