  06/08/2012: Fiuggi: Day Seven
email print
An early morning start for Vladimir Petkovic and the gang today. There is much to do after a poor showing against Galatasaray and with only one day before the squad makes the trip to Claudio Lotito's second home, Salerno.

Petkovic kicked off his morning with a rather lengthy discussion with Miroslav Klose. He spent 20 minutes sussing out the German's mood and how he himself feels about his preparations. The German is working separate tot the group in a bid to get up to speed more quickly. Today, he was involved in aerobic exercises intended to improve his stamina. Petkovic also held a 15 minute meeting with the team as he outlined the latest objectives.

The fitness situation is improving. Ederson continues to work separately with Stefan Radu who has been integrated into the team now that his knee is fully recuperated. Joining them today was Hernanes who is feeling some pain in his muscle and is not up to the exhausting regime that Paolo Rongoni had in mind. On a more positive note, Bizzarri and Diakite' rejoined the group today as they are now fit enough for Rongoni's workout.

The athletic training was intense this morning and as the squad came close to breaking point, Rongoni forced them to make quick changes of direction to show that, even when fatigued they can still move as Petkovic desires. Before the end of today's session, Petkovic tried something new - shooting practice. Lazio's lack of goalscoring prowess has clearly got to the Bosnian coach as he asks the players to hit firstly with power, and then with precision. As you might expect, Zarate and Floccari shone although Scaloni put an impressive showing for a defender.

A 12 v 12 match commenced in the evening with all fully fit players taking to the field. Radu was included in the game and as the media speculated, he did indeed feature as a centre-back. It was no ordinary game as the players were asked to play with two balls rather than one, which obviously upped the pace of the game and necessitated high levels of concentration. The majority of the squad will now travel to Salerno to take on the now infamous Salernitana. Bizzarri, Diakite', Ederson and Radu will head back to Rome to continue working on their fitness levels.
