The first leg of the Coppa Italia semi final between Lazio and Juventus takes place in Turin on Tuesday evening at 20.45 CET. The two teams occupy the top of the league together with Napoli and the Coppa Italia clash can indicate how the status between the teams is at the moment. The league game between the two ended in a goalless draw in Turin, a result that many Laziali are hoping will be repeated.
Juventus managed to beat Milan in overtime in their quarter final, where Conte fielded many reserves and there is no doubt that the domestic cup is where players are rested, if anywhere. Important pieces such as Pirlo, Vidal, Quagliarella, Vucinic and Marchisio are all set to miss the game no matter the selection of the coach, but with a bench as quality filled as Juve’s there will be enough quality to cover for the absentees.
Lazio will also have to do without instrumental figures. Petkovic stated in an interview on Monday that he has yet to make up his mind about the starting XI and that only players who are 100% fit will make the roster. Klose, Konko and the most recent addition to the injured cases, Radu, are all in doubt of being selectable for the tactician.
Worth noting is that the game is the first of two legs, in a competition where all games but the semi final are decided over one game only. In previous years the finalists have been decided in April, but with both Juventus and Lazio still in European competitions and hoping to stay in their respective competitions as long as possible the Italian football federation decided to have both games played as early as possible. In effect this means that the second leg will be played on Tuesday next week.
Possible lineups will be inserted as reports emerge from today’s trainings...
