22/07/2013: Zarate remains a Lazio player
email print

It seemed Mauro Zarate had escaped S.S. Lazio for good when he signed for Vélez Sarsfield last week, as reported by LazioLand.com. However, Zarate had signed for Vélez convinced that he would win his legal battle with Claudio Lotito and had not received any clearance from FIFA to sign for another club. Lazio stayed silent on the matter and were quietly confident about a positive result and today, they got the very result they expected - Lazio and Lotito won the legal battle and Mauro Zarate must now see out his contract with Lazio which runs until 2014.

It is not clear how both parties move forward from here - Zarate is technically a Lazio player but has been training with Vélez Sarsfield, and the illegal nature of this transfer will need to be investigated. More details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
