After the incidents at Napoli, Lazio president Claudio Lotito has suggested that a committee be created to monitor the last remaining weeks of Serie A to ensure integrity.
"I am speechless," said Lotito. "Why did this suggestion anger everyone ? I am trying to protect the system." thundered Lotito.
"I did not refer to any special incidents, all I said and wanted was for the system to be managed in a transparent way. I am very surprised by the negative reactions. We should all care that the system should be fair, if anyone thinks it should not, let them say it ! The least that they can do is support me instead of surprisingly contesting me in the media" said Lotito.
"I want to be very clear, that I never asked for Lazio to be favored. All I want is for the system to protect Lazio and other teams as per the rules and regulations. I want the matches to be settled on the field, the results should depend on the play. If we find situations that will affect the results, we have a duty to speak against them." explained Lotito.
"I as Lazio president, have a duty to protect Lazio, I will not allow anyone to hurt Lazio." affirmed Lotito.
Speaking then about the importance of the Champions League qualification, Lotito explained:
"The qualification for the Champions League has a huge financial importance. The prize to win the Super Cup in Italy is around 1 million to 2 million euros, for the qualification to the champions league, it is 10 million euros. This is a big sum and could affect a public company like Lazio."
