31/10/2013: "I am satisfied but we could have won": Petkovic

After taking a point away from AC Milan in the San Siro last night, Petkovic spoke to the media stating he is satisfied and content with the 1-1 draw but that at this stage of the season he sees the Biancocelesti glass half full.

"We suffered at times today but the recovery from the lads was very positive after Kaka's opening goal and we could have even won. Lazio played a cautious and conservative match and we were able to achieve a good result away from home", stated the Lazio tactician.

Petkovic explained that his side was not going to dominate the match but the plan was to play close and intelligently handle the Rossoneri offense as that is their main strength. He admitted the first half was uninspiring but that the second half was a complete turnaround, “In the second half we saw a team that believes in the project at Lazio, a team of players that do not believe anything less which I am proud to see.

This match demonstrated perfectly why Petkovic sees the glass as half full as there were both positives and negatives he saw from his side. ”There is regret that we did not play well in the first half and that we only woke up after their goal and then attained a good result”, he stated. He knows full well that it should not be that way and that this is something the team will be focusing on in the coming weeks, “We must be more obedient, precise and concentrated in order to take the initiative in matches. It is vital that we focus ourselves on this element”.

Petkovic then went on to praise the players who may not always start or feature in a match but work hard in training sessions and are ready to step up whenever he calls upon them. A good example of this is Ogenyi Onazi’s performance last night after coming on for Hernanes. “Hernanes had a tough time against Milan. I decided to substitute him out for Onazi to inject something different and the lad had a very good game, worked hard and is a good example for the young players coming through”, reiterated Petkovic.
