  20/11/2013: Petkovic: "I never resigned, I am a fighter"

Vladimir Petkovic has been linked heavily with the Switzerland post in recent weeks. Current Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has been at the helm for six years now, but will be stepping down after the World Cup. As Petkovic's contract is expiring in the summer, he seems a natural successor to Hitzfeld. Speaking to Rsi, Petkovic addressed the rumour as well as discussing life in Rome, Lulic and his relationship with Lotito:

"We will return to flying high, the season is long and we are working well. Soon, you will see results. Switzerland? I enjoy hearing these rumours and I am proud to be associated with the job - it shows that I have done well in my career."

"Rome is a big city, but at the same time, it is also small. Every day, there are running emotions, secrets, intrigue and stories. The fans live football 24/7 and things move quickly. There are 21 radio stations and other outlets dispensing information and it creates stories such as that of my resignation. I never resigned, I am a fighter."

"Is Lulic my favourite? I have a special history with him that spans three different occasions (Lulic played under Petkovic at both Bellinzona and Young Boys before Lazio]. He has always scored decisive goals for me, the goal of May 26 is even more important because the vicotry in the Coppa Italia against Roma has been passed into history."

Asked whether he knew Lotito would be reluctant to spend, Petkovic replied as follows:

"I knew that. He is a unique character, one who is strong but emotional. He is driving his own ideas into Italian football. The first year, I came on my tiptoes - no one knew me and gave me only a few weeks as manager. With work, I have conquered that but this impression is not only about results, but about my nature. People remember the way I am and how I do things. Such things are remembered longer."
