04/12/2013: Mangia: "Who would say no to Lazio?"

Vladimir Petkovic's hold on the managerial hotseat is becoming more and more precarious with every passing week and in the past 24 to 48 hours, Devis Mangia has been linked with a move to the capital.

Despite his inexperience, 39 year-old Mangia is an interesting proposition. He forged a successful career in the lower leagues before joining Varese as a youth coach and guiding them to a Campionato Primavera final. He then moved on to Palermo as a youth coach in 2011. Surprisingly, he was given a chance to manage the Palermo first team in the 2011-12 after Stefano Pioli was sacked in a matter of hours. At the time, Mangia lacked the necessary coaching badges, and was somewhat inevitably sacked before the end of year. In 2012, he took over the Italian U21 team and guided the Azzurrini to a European Championship final but he resigned after the tournament having expressed his desire to return to club management.

In an interview with Radio Mana Mana, Mangia has welcomed speculation linking him to Lazio:

"Who would say no to Lazio? No one would refuse such a team. It is a great honour to be linked to a team of such importance. I have had no contact with Lazio, but the link makes me happy."

"Of course, I have the utmost respect for Petkovic who has proven he can do well."
