After another 3 hour meeting today, Lazio and Petkovic couldn't come to an agreement over mutual termination. According to the press, Lazio offered Petkovic 100k to terminate his contract with the Bosnian refusing. Lazio have now fired Petkovic for 'just cause' for his deal with the Swiss FA.

Petkovic signed a contract with the Swiss FA on December 23rd to become coach after the World Cup. It is now believed that Petkovic will attempt to sue Lazio for 'unfair dismissal'. His lawyer D'Onofrio told reporters:

"We consider it unfair dismissal and unlawful because he never violated any rules. The coach is deeply saddened by what happened, he had a project he wanted to bring to fruition. He wishes the fans and the team a great end to the season."

Edy Reja has finally been announced as his successor. It was no secret as he has already been leading training, however he would have not been allowed to sit on the bench for Lazio's game against Inter as Petkovic was technically still manager. Reja's initial deal is for 6 months with an option to renew for another year, either as manager if certain goals are achieved or as a technical director.

Also linked with the bench, Murat Yakin has signed an extension with Basel reducing the probability of Lazio approaching him in the summer."
