In a press conference with CalcioCatania about the game against Lazio on Sunday, former Lazio midfielder and current Catania coach, Diego Simeone gave some insights about the game:
"We are fighting against relegation, and we alone cannot do it. We need the fans by our side to help us win." said Simeone.
He continued: "I have seen them at the derby and they were wonderful, and I hope I see them again on Sunday. The fans have to come, and we will have to do our part and win."
Asked about the formation, Diego said: "I have not decided who is going to play yet, I have still to assess the situation and the physical condition of the players. The ones who are in top form will play."
Simeone then continued to speak about the situation of Catania:
"In general I am satisfied with the team, we are progressing a lot. To stay in Serie A does not only depend on us, it also depends on the results of the other games. The remaining games are difficult and nothing should be taken for granted. Who ever wondered that Parma could beat Inter, so you see, in football all is possible."
Turning to speak about Lazio, Simeone had only positives to say: "The game against Lazio on Sunday is a very difficult encounter. Lazio have a very strong squad. They have added to the strength of last season by bringing in Hernanes, who has excellent qualities. Floccari is also a strong player, and Zarate can destory a team if given space. We will be playing against a tough opponent."
Asked about his feelings for Lazio, Simeone said:
"I will never forget the time I spent there. I will always hold the laziali in my heart, in addition to the memories of winning the scudetto. My experience with Lazio was simply beautiful. But on Sunday there is no room for emotions, we will give our best and we want to win and get three important points that will help us avoid relegation. This is why we need the support of the fans."
Finally asked about his future, Diego said: "I have a contract with Catania, I think this answers the question."
