28/01/2014: Possible Berisha suspension motivation behind goalkeeper search

In his press conference earlier today, Edy Reja hinted that Lazio were in the market for a new goalkeeper despite the fact that Federico Marchetti is set to remain with the club. The statement raised eyebrows, but according to Radio Sei, Lazio's need for a third goalkeeper stems from concerns over a suspension that Etrit Berisha could receive in the near future.

The Albanian goalkeeper faces a 6-month suspension should he be found guilty of signing a pre-contract agreement with Chievo Verona before agreeing to transfer to Lazio. Chievo have taken the case up with UEFA who have yet to rule on the case, but are expected to do so before the season end.

Injury and illness to Marchetti has forced Reja to consider a future with Primavera goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha in goal for a period and by the manager's own admission, it is not a scenario he wants to see become a reality.

Mariano Andujar - who has already signed a deal with Napoli for next season - is a possibility on a 6-month loan, but difficulties over that deal has pushed Lotito towards AC Milan's 21 year-old Brazilian stopper Gabriel.
