Following the 1-0 win over Bologna on the final match day of Serie A 2013/14, Edy Reja spoke to the media about his position at the club and Lotito’s intentions;
"Lotito? We have scheduled a meeting tomorrow. We need to speak as soon as possible to discuss some important issues. I need to know what are the intentions of the club and when and where will the changes start from. I have my own ideas of how I would like to do things. I will propose them, listen to his and and from there we will see what to do".
"I was expecting something more when I rejoined in January. There are several missing results and games we should have won, especially those at home. We really missed a win and a half to gain European qualification. We nearly achieved a goal that seemed beyond our dreams in December, but the fact remains that we did not make Europe".
"We started well in January and collected some important points which put us in a positive position, but overall it was not enough. The league is very competitive, as can be seen in the final standings today".
Lazio finished the season in ninth position, a far cry from what the club was expected to achieve this season following last season’s positive campaign and the Coppa Italia success;
"I believe the returns since January onwards have been sufficient. Prior to that it was insufficient. If I had more games to work with I am confident we would have finished higher".
"When you come in mid-season you change some things and that takes time for the players to learn and re-adapt. I tried to change as little as possible but there were certain characteristics I believed we missed".
"Looking ahead to the summer transfer market, Lotito and Tare need to find players with quality, character and a physical presence. Also with determination and technical qualities".
"Playing in Rome is not easy. It is a difficult environment. If you go by without a win in two or three games everyone feels the pressure. If you do not have the character needed at this time, you will be in an even more difficult situation. The management of the club, the fans, and the city demand results. We will discuss all this at our meeting tomorrow and I hope to have a worth wile and productive meeting", concluded Reja.
