27/05/2014: Joop Lensen expected to take charge of Academy Roberto Lovati
email print

Yesterday evening, Lazio announced their plans for the Academy Roberto Lovati. It will be the first academy of its kind in Italy, and the project should be fully up-and-running within 24 months, although work will begin immediately.

Set to take charge of the operation is Joop Lensen - a man with 20 years of experience, who has undertaken a similar role at both Ajax and Fenerbahce. Lensen has been in harge of the Dutch Football Academy and was largely responsible for the talents that emerged at Ajax during the 1990s, many of which played a part in the team that won the Champions League in 1995. He has also worked alongside Louis van Gaal at AZ Alkmaar.

Lensen was present yesterday at the event organised to announce the academy, and while he was not kept away from the spotlight, he was not paraded in front of the media either. It is believed he will begin work in August having had a two-hour football discussion with Claudio Lotito on Sunday.
