  28/06/2014: Astori's decision is close....

With Stefan De Vrij expected to finalise his move to Manchester United over the coming days, it looks as though Claudio Lotito will fully turn his attention to securing the long term defensive target Cagliaris' Davide Astori.

The Sardinian's however, have different views about letting their prize asset leave them this summer. Yesterday, Cagliari's Director of Sports Francis Marroccu stated;

"We have a strong desire to keep Davide. We would like for him to continue his relationship with us and I hope to convince him to stay. I hope to convince him to stay with a proposal to renew his contract, which expires in 2015, and also increase his salary".

Cagliari would like to give their new coach Zdenek Zeman a guarantee that the highly demanded Astori will remain in Sardinia for season at least 2014/15 and are doing everything in their power to retain the former Italian international.

However it looks as thought no final decision will be made at least until June 30th when the defender returns from his vacation in India, Nepal and the Maldives with his partner Francesca Fioretti.

Due to this, Astori's future can only really be discussed once he returns. He will return to the island with offers of a contract renewal from Marroccu, but also with an offer from Lotito's Lazio.

Several reports are suggesting that the defender is now ready to accept a move to the blue half of Rome, but an economic agreement between the Biancocelesti and the Rossoblu is missing. Lotito has offered 5 million Euros for the central defender but Cagliair's president is not willing to sell for anything under 7 million Euros.

The coming week will be huge for both Lazio and Cagliari, but also Davide Astori as the defender will need to make a final decision about his playing future.
