03/07/2014: Lega Serie A website indicates Basta is on loan
email print
Lega Serie A have updated the transfer section of their website to include Marco Parolo, Filip Djordjevic and Dusan Basta as Lazio players, but according to their listings, Dusan Basta is only a "temporary signing".

As co-ownership deals have been outlawed, this can only mean that Basta is at Lazio on loan, unless the information is erroneous.

As Basta has been one of Udinese's standout performers in recent years, it is unlikely that they would have sent him on loan cheaply, if at all. It will be interesting to see in the coming days if there are reports of a buyout clause and whether it is obligatory or optional. As there have been reports of Basta signing a 4 year-deal, it seems likely that any buyout clause would be obligatory.

In any case, such a deal for Basta may be indicative of a desire to limit expenditure. President Lotito often pays transfer fees in a number of installments, and Lazio's summer expenditure is not in keeping with tradition, even if the Hernanes money is readily available to spend. If it is true that Basta is at Lazio on loan, it is likely that the club have spent closer to 15 million this summer rather than the 20 million that the media are suggesting.
