  11/07/2014: Confusion over Tounkara contract
email print
In a press conference yesterday, Lazio Director of Sport Igli Tare claimed that Mamadou Tounkara had signed a new contract, keeping the player at Lazio until 2018. Today, however, Mamadou's father Hamidou - who claims to be the legal representative of his son, Mamadou - has told that he has not been contacted by anyone at Lazio and therefore, his son could not have signed a new deal with Lazio.

Tare's claim that Tounkara had signed a new deal was a surprise, given recent media reports that Tounkara is considering a future away from Lazio. This was also said to be the reason behind the club's decision not to take Tounkara to pre-season training in Auronzo di Cadore, but according to Tare, that decision is a temporary measure; a punishment for the player's behaviour rather than a contractual dispute.
