13/07/2014: Auronzo di Cadore: Day 2
email print
8.40am, and Pioli has assembled his team on the field complete with Lazio's eagle, Olimpia who is also afforded the opportunity to enjoy the morning sunshine. The players spend the opening hour getting the muscles going on the field and also on the gym. Ederson continues on his individual program, but today he is joined by Milos Antic who has a minor knee problem.

Pioli then begins to work on the player's movement before working with the 4-3-3 system in some detail. This appears to be the favoured system at present, and the manager encourages his players to be aggressive and fluid. Pioli proceeds to carry out some defence and ball possession exercises with half of the pre-season squad. Berisha and Guerrieri take turns between the posts while Marchetti and Strakosha train separately. The players then return to the gym, with some visiting St. Catherine's lake for a little dip.

In the evening, Pioli continues to work on the 4-3-3 system but he now rotates the team so everyone gets an opportunity to discover his methods. It is once again clear that defence is the priority, but the manager is also keen to stress the importance of working as an entire unit from the goalkeeper to the striker in both the defensive and attacking phases of play. He often stops play in order to convey his message.

With his assistant Murelli, Pioli continues to carry out technical exercises. He sets about getting the players to play the ball about while moving, and then he works on practicing shots from the edge of the penalty area. This brings training to a close, although some players continue to carry out individual technique exercises. No match today; Lazio's first test will come on day three against Auronzo.
