21/07/2014: Marroccu: "We are at the dawn of a deal"

Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Italia reported earlier this afternoon that Lazio president Claudio Lotito has contacted Cagliari once again to discuss Davide Astori. Sky Italia have chased up this lead, and Cagliari's Director of Sport Francesco Marroccu has explained the situation:

"We have heard the offer of Lazio from a technical standpoint rather than an economic one. We are at the dawn of a deal and we don't know how it will end."

There had been persistent reports that new Cagliari owner Tommaso Giulini was frustrated and tired of Lotito's effort to sign Astori, but Marroccu has denied this:

"There has never been any tension, the two of them respect each other and are friends in business."

"The intention is to take the right decision [on Astori's future]. He has been here for so many years, has been loyal to us and has values. If he goes away, it is in the interest of the club, as he has a contract until 2015 and has respect for the club."

"The arrival of Allegri has caused an approach from Juventus, but right now, only Lazio have a concrete interest."
