After a disappointing first season with Lazio Felipe Anderson is ready to show everyone his true identity and that he is worth the 10 million euro which Lazio paid for him last summer.
What are your hopes for the upcoming season?
“I have a lot of desire to show my skills and talent. I know that I can do that and this is the year I want to become a great player. I had many difficulties last season and I could not play well. I am fully concentrated now and I’m ready to do well.”
What are your first thoughts about Pioli?
“I have learned a lot for these two weeks from the coach. He gave me more freedom and now I can get in the middle of the field. It’s great because I like playing like that. This is my style.”
What did you miss last season and what do you want to do in the upcoming season?
“Last year I had injury problems. I’ve never been four months out of the training ground. I felt much better in the second part of the season. I did more and more things game after game and now it’s time to show all of my potential.”
Was the role you were used at the problem?
“I naturally play in the midfield. I like to control the game by running with the ball. I play where the coach tells me to. The same thing was at Santos. I always give my best to help the team. The football that is played in Italy is different and it took me some time to adapt. Now I have to do well.”
Do you think you can become a leader?
“Of course, I have great desire to stay here and show everyone that I’m worth the money. Rome is beautiful, the fans count on me and this motivates me.”
Your role is in the midfield?
“Yes, this is my role. I’m playing closer to the flank but with more freedom. It’s a role that I like. I told the coach that I can play everywhere he wants me to.”
Where can you improve?
“I have to get the ball moving in the right direction. I’m learning a lot thanks to the coach. We often speak after the training sessions and he tells me what to do. This could be a great year for us.”
How much have we seen from Felipe Anderson’s talent?
“It’s hard to say. I’ve done good things with Santos and I have always been growing as a player there. I never knew how much this will continue.”
Do you think you can replace Hernanes?
“Forget Hernanes. He is like an idol for me. It’s hard to do what he did at the club. I feel I can do well. I have talent, speed, I can help in midfield and on the flank. Believe me, we can reach the top.”
Have you talked with Tare?
“He told me to take care of myself so that I’m able to give my best on the pitch and that I have to do what I did for Santos. I just need the right determination.”
You’ve had a tough adaptation to Italian football. Did you expect it to be so hard?
“It’s been hard. I had a slight problem with the intensity of the games. You have to work in defence and in attack.”
Were you disappointed from Brazil at the World Cup? Is Selecao your goal?
“The day when we played against Germany in the semi-finals was the saddest of my life, as well as for every Brazilian. It would have been a dream to become World champions in Brazil. But this is football. For us, the football players, it’s a bit easier to assimilate this kind of disappointment. My dream is to play the World Cup in 2018. If I work hard and do well at Lazio I might get a call-up.”
