Filip Djordjevic or Miroslav Klose? This is the question facing Stefano Pioli for next weekend’s first home match of the new season against newly promoted Cesena, believes La Lazio Siamo Noi reporter Claudio Cianci.
The German legend retired from international football following the glory in Brazil, but for the Serbian striker he is very much in the fold for his national side as they take on France in Belgrade tonight.
Djordjevic is revving to go against Les Bleus to help his side but also to impress Pioli and get the nod over Klose against Cesena. He performed well in Milano after being substituted on with great determination, energy, promise, and threatened the Milan defense. Several pundits have called for Djordjevic to make his full debut at the Olimpico next week so with another good performance tonight he should be able to convince Pioli to let him start.
This international break will have been a rare one for Klose but one that he will have benefited from as he looks to recover from a fatigued appearance against Milan. With 11 players involved with their national sides this international break and three out injured (Radu, Marchetti and Biglia), Pioli has had less players to work with at Formello, but this will have helped some of the fringe players establish their importance to a new look Lazio. Djordjevic and Basta will be one the last to return, just before Cana and Berisha.
Only over the next few days will we see which striker Pioli fields in round two of the championship, concluded Cianci.
