  20/09/2014: "We must be fearless": Pioli
email print

Stefano Pioli spoke to the media ahead of the third match day clash against a traditionally problematic opponent in Genoa;

"We want to
take control of the match from the first minute and not let them control us. We respect Genoa and it will be difficult against them as they are a well balanced and aggressive opponent so we will need to fight for at least 95 minutes. We have our own mentality and a style of play that will hopefully bring us all three points back to Rome".

"Gasperini is a terrific coach who has built a strong side. They lost their opening home game this season in the last few minutes against a very strong opponent in Napoli so they will be determined to do their best and will give their fans a determined performance I am sure. We have to play with humility but also with the desire to win the match. We must be fearless".

Pioli was then asked about the taboo the Biancocelesti have against their Ligurian rivals, which has led to six losses in as many games;

"We are not going to dispel taboos. We cannot change what happened in the past so we must look forward to this game with full confidence. To obtain a positive result we have to play an unpredictable style".

The tactician was then asked about Federico Marchetti's potential return to the squad following some injuries;

"I am very
happy to have Federico in my squad and that he has resumed training with us. He has left behind the injuries and accidents in the past and he has now completed his third or fourth full workout with his teammates. He will be in the squad this weekend.
