  18/01/2015: Player Profile: Senad Lulic

Senad Lulic made his way into Lazio legendary status the moment the ball fell to his right foot at the back post in the 71st minute of the Coppa Italia final on the 31 May 2013. Today we at Lazioland want to wish Senad Lulic’s a happy 29th birthday.

Looking back at that goal it was made even sweeter knowing that the reason Lazio had possession for Antonio Candreva’s low cross was that Daniele De Rossi had lost the ball and then Francesco gave way a foul that led to the goal.

Following the Serbian’s winner he became Lazio’s most celebrated player among Laziali - during the following Derby della Capitale fans sang his name in the 71st minute. In the pre-match banta of last Sunday’s game the fans passionately belted out Lulic’s name at the Roma fans in the Tribuna Tevere.

There was a lot of talk last summer that the number 19 was going to be sold to Juventus - fortunately for us this did not happen.

So far this season Lulic has scored three times this season which have come in the wins again Fiorentina and Atalanta plus the 1-1 away draw against Verona. According to whoscored.com he has a rating of 7.23 and their statistics show that he has best performed as a left winger rather than in midfield.

Last season the Serbian star finished the season with seven goals and ten assists with a golden period starting towards the end of March that saw him net four times in five games.

Lulic signed from Swiss club Young Boys in 2011 at the same time when Federico Marchetti from Cagliari, Abdoulay Konko from Genoa and Marius Stankevicius from Sampdoria joined and Djibril Cisse’s signing was just around the corner.

His best league tally was back in 2007-08 when playing for Bellinzona, his first club, when he finished the season with ten. that form saw him join Swiss side Grasshopper where he spent two seasons before moving to Young Boys.

He is a regular for the Bosnian national team having featured in this season’s poor defeats against Israel and Cyprus as well as the two credible draws against Belgium and Wales.

Sadly due to his ligament injury suffered before last week’s derby Lulic will miss his birthday match against Napoli and is likely to be out for at least another four weeks.
