  15/03/2015: "Pioli's Lazio the finest since Cragnotti's": Zoff

Former coach Dino Zoff spoke to La Lazio Siamo Noi about Stefano Pioli, the current Lazio and the future;

"Suddenly, this season, Italian football has been taken by ‘Piolilandia’ and the brand of football his new look Lazio are playing. All the attention is on him", jokes Zoff.

"The victory against Fiorentina was undoubtedly the highlight of the season for the Biancocelesti in my opinion, and so it is normal that the spotlight over the past few days has been put on Pioli".

"Lazio are playing with pace, intensity and an overwhelming dominance which make it very enjoyable to watch. Pioli’s Lazio are thrilling to watch there is no denying that. I have not seen such exciting matches in Serie A for some time".

This is why comparisons with some of the most popular Lazio coaches in recent years have been drawn; including Zdenek Zeman, Roberto Mancini, and Delio Rossi are the names that pop up amongst fans of the blue side of Rome. Enter in a new name, Stefano Pioli.

LLSN asked Zoff who his favourite Biancocelesti coach is;

"You can say that amongst those names, Pioli’s Lazio is for me the finest squad since Sergio Cragnotti’s one. That period was stratospheric, a beautiful time which has forever gone down in history. Under Lotito the club does not have the financial power it once did under Cragnotti and so it is a bit difficult to compare the two squads and times. Perhaps without that factor, Pioli’s squad may be the best in terms of the bread of football that is being played?"

LLSN then asked Zoff what Lazio should be concentrating on for the remainder of the season;

"I would say that the important thing is to now think about each game at a time. We must always hope for a good performance and a positive result but it is not guaranteed or automatic. We will see against Torino this weekend if the music continues", concluded Zoff.
