28/05/2011: Lotito meets Capozucca: Witsel and Papastathopolous said to be discussed
email print
Earlier this week, Stefano Capozucca announced to the media that Lazio had signed Senad Lulic. With no confirmation of a deal, rumours about a move for Domenico Criscito were circulating rapidly and Genoa's Director of Sport took rather premature measures to quash the speculation. However, a meeting between the Lazio president and Capozucca yesterday is sure to reignite some of the transfer talk.

Brazilian right-back Rafinha has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Stephan Lichtsteiner should he make the move to Juventus but with the former attracting the attention of Bayern Munich, it seems his name was left out of the discussion. Interestingly, Alex Witsel was said to be the focus of the discussion. Seemingly, Genoa and Lazio are keen on signing the player from Standard Liege on a deal similar to that which Milan and Genoa held with Kevin-Prince Boateng. The player himself may be keen on a move as his father told the press yesterday that his son wants to play in one of Europe's top leagues. There have also been suggestions that Lotito asked about the availability of Sokratis Papastathopolous; the player is currently at home in Greece and is still discussing a permanent move to Milan but Lotito is rumoured to be keen in snaring the centre-back from the clutches of the Serie A Champions.

The importance of meetings between Capozucca and Lotito should not be underestimated; when they met in January, it was not long before Giuseppe Sculli was to be found in biancoceleste.
