What has been expected for a while is now official. Bayern Munich issued a statement that Klose will not be renewing his contract and will leave in the summer. The question remains where to. While Lazio have shown great interest in the player, and Italian media have placed them in pole position, but it is clear that Klose has not made his mind yet as the offers are in abundance at the German's table.
In a statement by Bayern Munich and posted on their official website, it was confirmed that the 32 year old's contract which expires on June 30, will not be renewed. The striker will put an end to his chapter in Munich which included 98 appearances and 24 goals.
"Unfortunately, our talks with Miroslav Klose did not come to a positive end. We wanted him to extend his stay at Bayern but we were not able to agree on the length of the contract. We thank him for the four years and wish him all the best." said club chairman Rummenigge.
Klose meanwhile thanked Bayern for everything, and insisted that he has not made a decision on where to move next year.
"I’ve had four good and successful years here in Munich, and I’d like to thank FC Bayern very much indeed for that. The opportunity to play for this club was always very special. I have not made my decision on where to go next year." said Klose.
According to German press, Valencia are interested signing the player, and the fact that Klose's wife Silvia was spotted in Spain according to according to repubblica.it only adds fuel to the fire of this rumor. Tottenham are also rumoured to be interested in signing the player. Lotito has not hidden his admiration for Klose and now it remains to be seen which club will Klose go to.
From an economical point of view and knowing Lazio's salary cap, Klose would be closer to the other clubs, as the player was offered a renewal of 4.5 million euros per season but refused it as it was only a one year extension and Klose needs a starting position as that is the main reason he is leaving Bayern. From this perspective Lazio have the advantage.
The coming few days will definitely shed the light on the German bomber's future.
