10/06/2011: Lazio release Meghni, Gargano rumours intensify

Earlier today, SS Lazio announced via their website that they have terminated Algerian international Mourad Meghni's contract with immediate effect. The highly-talented midfielder has been plagued by injuries ever since he joined Lazio from Bologna in 2007 and Lotito has decided to cut his losses and let Mourad go.

Meanwhile, speculation has been growing that Lazio are on the verge of signing Walter Gargano from Napoli. The player has fallen out of favour with Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri and had been attracting the interest of Fiorentina but FirenzeViola.it are claiming that Fiorentina have exited the race to sign the Uruguayan as Lazio are close to sealing the deal. Gargano is said to be wanted by Edy Reja who has already worked with the player at Napoli.

Fiorentina and Napoli have been in negotiations recently for Marco Donadel while Lazio goalkeeper Tommaso Berni is on the radar of the Neapolitans with a move very much on the cards. It appears as though Gargano's name has also been on the negotiating table.
