18/06/2011: Scaloni: "I would go back to Estudiantes"

Corriere dello Sport report today that Lazio's wing-back Lionel Scaloni is contemplating a return to his homeland of Argentina.

The Argentine was quoted as saying the following:

"Estudiantes? It is possible that I could go back. I spoke to the management and explained my situation. I have another year left on my contract at Lazio so a transfer will not be easy but certainly I would be happy to wear the Estudiantes jersey. I do not know the plans of Lazio. Last season, I played quite often both on the right and the left and even in the centre."

It was said earlier in the week that an approach from another Argentine club, Newell's Old Boys was rejected by Lazio as speculation surrounding the possible departure of Stephan Lichtsteiner enhances Scaloni's role with the Roman club. However, Estudiantes are a different proposition for Lionel as he played there between 1996 and 1998.

The potential transfer of Abdoulaye Konko may also factor into Scaloni's availability.
