19/06/2011: Konko deal delaying Lichtsteiner transfer
email print
The Lichtsteiner deal has been driving Lazio fans crazy for weeks but this evening, Tuttosport claim to know what is causing all the problems. In their eyes, it is Abdoulay Konko.

President Lotito presented Konko with a contract a week ago having struck a deal with Genoa to bring the French player to Rome. However, that offer was rejected by Konko's agent who argued that if his client id to move to a better club for a figure of five million euro then he needs to be given a salary to match. According to reports, Lotito offered one million euro per season plus bonuses. Konko currently earns 300,000 more than that at Genoa and is asking for a slight increase at Lazio.

As a result of the slow negotiations, the deal for Lichtsteiner has been put on the backburner. Tuttosport and numerous other sources have claimed that Claudio Lotito would be willing to settle for the figure of 10 million euro for the Swiss right-back and that Juventus would be prepared to match that asking price. However, Lotito himself has said all along that, while he is willing to find the correct solution for Lichtsteiner, he is expecting the Turin giants to match the release clause of 12 million.

Tomorrow is an important day. A Serie A league assembly will take place at the Hilton hotel in Rome and this will be an opportunity for further transfer talk. It is believed that Lazio's deal for Marchetti will be nearer to completion tomorrow; Juventus will be hoping that Lotito also takes the time to make the Konko possibility into a reality.
