“It is a dream coming true”, said the midfielder, who has been followed by Lazio fans all over the world over the last weeks, as his Ururguay has impressed in the oldest of international football tournaments, and in the end were crowned champions for the historical 15th time.
The parties had been going on all night in Montevideo, yet ‘Tata’ made sure to underline the role of Lazio in his part of the festivities: “Without Lazio I would not be here. Now I will come back and try to do the same with Lazio. There is definitely a chance we can win trophies with Lazio the coming season.”
“I feel that the whole team is celebrating with me back in Rome”, continued Gonzalez, “Scaloni just called and congratulated me on behalf of the whole team.”
Alvaro Gonzalez has had a hard time finding himself a starting spot for Lazio, but is determined to continue to work hard and earn a place in Reja’s team. “I have nothing to say to Reja, I will only work harder and make sure he gives me the chance. That is what I did for the national team, and when Tabarez believed in me I showed he had taken the right decision.”
Now a well deserved rest awaits the player, who is expected to return to Rome by the official team presentation on August 11. It has been rumoured Lotito sees the future of the fighting midfielder elsewhere this summer, but it remains to be seen how things unfold when the South American champion returns to Rome.
