Lazioland.com had earlier reported on Diakité having attracted interest from various clubs on the continent, and now it seems one of the suitors have stepped up their interest. According to Ulisse Savini, the player’s agent, the French champions are ready to pay €5 million for the services of the 24-year old Frenchman. Having been brought as early as 2006, Diakité has struggled to find a place in Lazio, and now a move back to his native country could be on the radar. Worth noting is that one of the current defenders in Lille, David Rozehnal, previously have played for Lazio and on numerous occasions together with Diakité, and maybe the reunited pair could be the aim for the French champions.
“We are yet to discuss this with Lazio “said Savini, and underlined that despite Lille being an important side his client has a contract with Lazio until 2013 and is happy in Rome. Lazi has not put the player up for sale, and when asked about Lazio president Claudio Lotito, as well as coach Edoardo Reja, have both assured the player is a part of the team's plans for the coming season.
It is widely known Lotito needs to off-load players as the squad is far too large, and it remains to be seen if is able to turn down a bid for the talented defender.
