  07/08/2011: Reja admits striker concern

Speaking to Sky Sports 24 before the Europa League draw, Lazio coach Edy Reja admitted that he does not know if Mauro Zarate will remain at Lazio and acknowledged that seven strikers is not what he wants at his disposal.

These comments forced Zarate's agent Beppe Bozzo into clarifying the situation. He also admitted that a sale could not be ruled out but that Zarate has a price tag of 20 million euro which has yet to be met by any of the interested parties. He also moved to quell speculation that Zarate could move to wealthy Paris St. Germain, saying that he had spoken to their coach, Leonardo at an event and that the Argentine's name did not appear in the discussion.

After Lazio's 4-1 win over Universitatea Cluj last night, Igli Tare commented on the situation in an interview with Sky Sports 24:

"We will see what happens, his departure depends solely on the generosity of any offers that come between now and the end of August. He is animportant player for us, you can see how hard he is working and tonight, he had a great performance."

Meanwhile, Reja is happier about other matters. The performance against Cluj was satisfying and he now feels that the team is improving, both technically and tactically. On FK Rabotnicki, he said that Lazio would have to prepare well, as the Macedonians will be motivated by the level of the opposition and are ahead in their physical preparation. Reja was evidently aware that FK Rabotnicki are a young side, but seemingly unaware that FK Rabotnicki did not win their league last season. Clearly the coach will need to know more about them by the time the first leg is played at the Olimpico on the 18th August.
