15/08/2011: Lazio-Lugano. Reja wants this player.

The Fenerbahce story is now finished, the Lazio story could begin. Diego Lugano could terminate his contract with the Turkish club, and in that case he could be brought at parametre zero, which is a big temptation for Tare and Lotito. Two years ago the manager Juan Figer and the club were close to an agreement, but the talks failed, yet the law of the mercato is „never say never“. Lugano was always liked by Lazio, the club wanted to rebuild the defense around him. It was in the summer of 2009 that the soap opera began, player gave his consent, but economic issues stood in the way and frictions arose. The story may now change, because even if he does have a contract with the Turkish club until 2013, it coulb be rescinded if the club is relegated to B because of the betting scandal. Juve has already made inquiries, and the player is sought by many.

The Plan – Lazio is still in the market, considering the opportunities, but needs to sell before buying. The team is packed, but another defender would be welcome. Stankevicius was brought as a central defender, which is a questionable decision. The Lithuanian is struggling with physical problems and fitness. Also, he isn't a central defender but a right back, and the first appearances in Auronzo showed his limits. He has an inflammation in his left knee, caused by posture problems, and as such can not be compared to Lugano. Also present in the team are Diakite and Stendardo, who deserve more trust, as the Frenchman is on the rise and the Neapolitan is becoming more and more reliable, and both offer more guarantees than Stankevicius. The defense needs reinforcement, maybe with a player of Lugano's experience. The player should lower his salary demands however. In Turkey he had a salary of 3 million €, and he should give a strong signal if he wants to switch. He had already said yes to Lazio.
