The former coach spoke to Radio Mana Mana and took shots at Lazio's mercato, management during his time at the club, and the situation with Zarate.
"It is true that Lazio bought important players, but they are old. This can do them good only to survive this season but nothing more." said Ballardini while speaking to Radio Mana Mana.
Davide Ballardini has coached Lazio for half a season before he was sacked by Lotito in favor of Reja after the team risked relegation. Speaking of his time in Rome, Ballardini said: "I was the right man in the wrong time, there was no transfer market, there were big problems with Ledesma and Pandev, and we had to play in three competitions. In January we had to get 5-6 players but the problems were already a lot. I made a mistake with Pandev, I should not have allowed the problems to interfere with my line up."
Ballardini then gave his opinion on Zarate's case:
"Zarate did what is best, he had lots of problems from the team and the surrounding environment. He must now continue to work seriously on and off the pitch. Zarate needs leaders around him and he has that chance at Inter."
Finally Ballardini gave an opinion about Italian football: "We are not progressing anymore, the proof is that when a coach gets an offer from abroad he takes it. The German, Spanish, and English leagues are now more fascinating because coaches control the squad, here in Italy we are subject to Presidents and Media, this affects our work."
