Bad luck, bad referreing and a bad result. That has been the general consensus on Lazio's loss to Sporting on Thursday night and the sentiment was echoed by those on the club payroll.

Edy Reja had little to say to Corriere dello Sport: "It's a result that leaves a bad taste in our mouths. We tried to win and came close to doing so on a couple of occasions. Unfortunately, we got an undeserved defeat. The guys are dejected in the dressing room."

Giovanni Lopez, Reja's assistant was less diplomatic with his response: "Their goal came 23 seconds after the allotted overtime. Edy was expelled for merely pointed this out to the referee. In addition to the poor refereeing, we were inaccurate in front of goal. There were errors, Rocchi, Sculli, but we were also unlucky. This was an unfortunate moment where we were punished at the first point of distraction."

The players were not in the right frame of mind to speak in depth to the media. Hernanes simply expressed his disbelief at the result while Djibril Cisse reiterated his desire to represent France at Euro 2012 and acknowledged the 'struggle' he faces to make the squad with Lazio.

Lotito once again excused the result in an interview with firenziviola.it, speaking of the "unknown factors" as he did following the Genoa debacle:

"I hope we don't dwell on defeat, even if we all regret what happened yesterday in Lisbon. Yesterday's game is yet another example of how unknown factors can influence the game. I hope to see Lazio with motivation, desire, the right determination and then the results will come. I expect a team with a strong will and determination."
