23/01/2011: Zarate banned for three games

Lazio striker Mauro Zarate was banned for three Serie A games on Monday for hurling a ball at an opponent and being involved in a brawl at the end of Sunday's 3-1 loss at Bologna.

The defeat hit fourth-placed Lazio's hopes of the scudetto and the loss of Zarate, linked in the media with Juventus, will further complicate their title bid in the coming weeks with defender Andre Dias also banned for their next game.

Bologna forward Henry Gimenez was banned for two games by the Italian league on Monday for his role in the skirmish. The substitute took offence to an Andres Dias challenge, which saw the Lazio defender dismissed in the 83rd minute.

It’s unclear whether Lazio or Bologna will appeal against those decisions.
