24/10/2011: Edy Reja: "The defense must improve"

It seems that there is no pleasing to Edy Reja despite Lazio's second spot in Serie A until now as the tactician demanded improvement in the defense in his interview to Lazio Style Radio.

"We still have to improve defensively, all the opportunities of Bologna came from defensive mistakes, I expect better from our defense" said Edy Reja.

"I have to thank the fans for their affection. There were many who attended the Bologna game and their presence was felt. I understand their criticism sometimes as a fan always wants a win, but in reality it is not always possible, but I am a hard worker and we will continue to work hard to improve. But I am very happy they are standing behind the team as the players need their support." continued Reja.

Then the coach turned to speak about Wednesday's game against Catania and lamented the  injury situation.

"Mauri and Gonzalez are out. Matuzalem who gave a wonderful performance yesterday had to be substituted due to a muscular problem. We are still unsure of Brocchi and we now also have the case of Hernanes. We will see what the medical tests reveal."

But on a positive note, Reja complimented Lulic, Ledesma, Marchetti, and Cisse: "Lulic has played the part I assigned him and did a great job at it. Ledesma also played in a position that he is not used to play in and he was good too and I am very happy with Marchetti's performance, he regained his confidence and I hope Prandelli calls him. I feel sorry for Cisse because he did not score, but his assist is like a goal." concluded Reja.

Guiliano Giannichedda also was full of praise for Edy Reja as the former player spoke to Radio Sport: "Reja is doing well, he broke the curse of the derby and now everything is calm at Lazio. The team is proving to be mature and can give trouble to anyone."
