26/10/2011: Reja: "We played well today"
email print
After the draw against Catania coach Edy Reja praised his players but admits it is hard with all the recent injuries: "We played very well, had many opportunities but should have finished better. With the way we played, we deserved to win. Perhaps we were a bit unlucky. Cissé does indeed lack his freshness. We has played every third day. He has great potential. He has a good shot and amazing pace. He might need a little rest soon, the same with Lulic, Konko and Klose."

Reja was asked if he perhaps was wrong to go with a 4-3-3 formation but said he did not have much choice with so many players injured: "When you change formation you do loose something, but I did not have a choice with so few midfielders available. When we can recover we will look different and play with greater intensity. Hernanes really wanted to play today, even if he has not trained fully after the trip to Bologna. I decided not to risk him and started him on the bench. When he came on it was clear he was not fully fit. In defence changes with necessary with Dias out. Stankevicius had a good game, and defended well against Maxi Lopez, but Dias is a major player and it will be good to have him back."

This season Lazio has taken twice as many points on the road compared to playing at Olimpico. So far Lazio have taken 5 points at home and 10 away, but Reja does not think there is a "Olimpico crisis": "Even if we have not taken that many points, we have still created many opportunities at the Olimpico. Today we might have been penalized by the injuries, but I saw a high level team. I would have preferred to have more fit players and for my players to be fully rested, especially in the second half today this was noticable. I do not think we are weaker at home even if we have obtained more points on the road."
