30/10/2011: Reja: "We have a strong team this season"

After beating Cagliari 3-0 Edy Reja was satisfied when speaking to the press. Cagliari has not conceeded at home in the last three matches, but Edy Reja and Lazio was still able to put 3 goals in the opponents net and proving yet again that the team is doing better on the road:

"This year we have a physical team with personality. The president has given me a large group to work with, and I have several quality players at my disposal. I hope I can still continue to field the same eleven players, because when have to make too many changes it is harder. It is true we have had some problems at home. When we play at Olimpico most teams we play against are happy to go home with one point so they play more defensively. Against Catania we were able to create many chances, but we still need to score goals in these matches. That is the problem. Also, most our matches at Olimpico has always been a couple days after playing in europe, so that makes it harder when we have less time to prepare."

Reja is also full of praise to his new players: "Klose had an excellent performance today. His work rate was great and he ran alot. I replaced him because of a knock in his ankle. I will try to rest him when I can."

Another player that seems to have quickly found his place in Reja's squad is the versatile bosnian player Senad Lulic: "I can play Lulic anywhere on the field. Left back, right back and now in the midfield. It is great because he always attacks the spaces and stresses the opponent. Today he also scored his second goal for us, I can not really ask for more then that. We were also tracking him last season, but we were not sure about his defence skills since he played in the attack for Young Boys. He has proved to be usefull in the defence."

Some people are already talking about Lazio going for the Scudetto this season, Reja tries to cool it down and explain that the season is long: "We have a team that can go far, but it is still early. I want to thank the fans. Last match against Catania they applauded the team after the match even if it ended in a draw. This is an important signal for the players and gives them confidence. For now it is not a problem to be behind teams like Juventus and Udinese in the standings. Last year we were in the first place, but in the end we could not make it to the Champions League. We need continuity of results."
