The Lazio President received some shocking news tonight as the Court of Naples issued the verdicts in the Calciopoli case.
Claudio Lotito along with Luciano Moggi (Juventus), Diego and Andrea Della Valle (Fiorentina), Lillo Foti (Reggina), Leonardo Meani (Milan), Mariano Fabiani (Messina), Referee Designators Paolo Bergamo and Pierluigi Pairetto, and Referees Massimo De Santis, Paolo Bertini, Antonio Dattilo, Salvatore Racalbuto, Pasquali Rodomonti and Assistant referees Stefano Titomanlio, and Claudio Puglisi have all been charged of sporting fraud and received various sentences of prison.
Claudio Lotito was found guilty of sporting fraud by the court of Naples and was sentenced accordingly to prison for a year and 3 months and penalized for a fine of 25,000 euros.
Commenting to Radio Mana Mana sport on the incident, Lazio lawyer Michelle Gentile said:
"We received the bad news. We thought we had clarified the situations in the proceedings better, but we shall wait to read the grounds on which the court based their decision on. The decision was a shock to all."
It is worth mentioning that this will not lead to an imprisonement of the Lazio patron, as there are several levels of appeal that can be followed as per Italian law. All convicted names will have 90 days to know the grounds on which the decision was based and can prepare their appeal accordingly.
