21/11/2011: Reja: "Be patient with Cissé"

Two days after the draw against his former team Napoli, coach Edy Reja spoke to Lazio Style Radio:

"I was hoping to punish them more, because they left a lot of space. In the second half they looked much better, so I decided to put Alvaro Gonzalez on. Luckily we had Marchetti. We did well in the first half, but could have done much better in the second. However, we are back with a positive result and that is what we wanted."

Lazio has not conceded for four matches now, and it seems like the defence is looking more secure, like last season:

"Defensively we did very well. Even our backups are always doing well when I have use for them. I have strong characters at my disposal."

After taking Napoli out from Serie C and back into Europe, Edy Reja is still a popular man at the San Paolo. He still has great memories from that time:

"I was there for five years, it was a beautiful experience. I have been there for big victories at San Paolo. They are still always friendly and courteous. I have coached many of those players, like Hamsik, Gargano and Maggio. I hope they can do well in the Champions League."

Reja is already preparing for the battle against Conte's Juventus on Saturday:

"Conte is doing well. He has given them personality. They have bought quality players, and perhaps this season the team has more soul then in previous years. Juventus is a dangerous team with forwards like Vucinic & Pepe, and also Marchisio in the middle. I have never been convinced of their 4-2-4, because in Italy you will give the other team to much space when you play with four attackers."

As always striker Djibril Cissé will be a key man against Juventus and with no goals in the league since the opening day the pressure is high. Cissé had a go at the fans on Twitter after receiving criticism for his performance against Napoli. Reja however, is calm about his striker's form:

"I am telling both the fans and himself to be patient. With respect to both the Greek and French league, it is hard to play in Serie A. Napoli has a very strong defence, even at a physical level. It is normal to find little space in those matches. Everyone has some problems adjusting when switching to the Italian league. I have total confidence in him and hope he will score a goal soon."
